Home arrow Anxious Patients

Almost half of all adults in the UK have a fear of the dentist , if you are one of the 50% then we can help you. Here at Torrington we have dentists who understand that you don’t like being at the dentist and who are experienced at treating patients with anxieties, if you need to then they can provide treatment with conscious sedation.

What is conscious sedation?

For patients who are anxious about dental treatment then their treatment can be carried out with conscious sedation. We offer treatment with either inhalation sedation or IV sedation. With both types of sedation you will feel relaxed and calm so that your treatment can be carried out. Inhalation sedation involves breathing in a combination of nitrous oxide and oxygen to make you feel calm and happy, this treatment is suitable for both adults and children. With IV sedation the sedative is administered through a vein in the hand or arm and makes you feel sleepy and relaxed during your appointment. Before you have any treatment we will see you for an assessment appointment so that you can get to know us, share your concerns with us, and so that we can decide the best type of treatment for you.

Who are we?

There are two dentists who provide treatment with sedation at Torrington, Melissa Auvray and Rhys Gabe, both have done further training and qualifications in treating anxious patients with sedation. They are supported by a team of experienced dental nurses, who are also qualified in treating patients with sedation.

Initial assessment £60

Inhalation sedation from £130

IV Sedation from £250

Will I be completely asleep?

General Anaesthetic, or being put to sleep, is only available in a hospital setting. Conscious sedation is the best option for dental treatment without having to go to hospital.

Can I eat and drink before my appointment?

For most patients they can have a light meal a couple of hours before their treatment appointment but this will be discussed with you at your assessment appointment.

Do I need someone with me?

Yes, for both types of sedation you will need someone to drive you home, if you are having gas and air sedation then you should be able to carry on the rest of your day as normal, if you are having IV sedation you need someone with you for the 24 hours after your appointment.
