Autumn Newsletter 2023

28 September 2023

A Warm Welcome to the TDP Team

We’re delighted to be welcoming three new members to our TDP team this Autumn.

A warm welcome to our new associate Dentist Cristina Gomez. Cristina is originally from Portugal where she qualified in Porto in 2015 and relocated to the uk in 2016 where she has been working in Braunton ever since.

She likes all aspects of general dentistry and has a special interest in nervous patients, children and oral surgery where she is planning to expand her qualifications very soon. She is very compassionate and empathetic and always does her best to give patients a positive and calming experience. Outside of work she enjoys reading, shopping and you can find her at a CrossFit box or at the beach walking her very spoiled dog Pacho.

We are also joined by Dentist Thomas Rowley. Tom grew up and lived in Shropshire in the West Midlands before moving to Manchester in 2018 to study dentistry until graduating. He enjoys all aspects of dentistry and is currently working towards gaining his MFDS qualification.

Outside of work he has enjoyed playing many sports over the years, focusing mainly on swimming, in 2020 he got his dog and swapped the pools for long walks in the Peak and Lake Districts.

Finally we’re are also delighted to welcome Dental Therapist Molly Langford to the team. Molly qualified from Plymouth University/Peninsula Dental School in 2022 with a BSc (with distinction) in Dental Hygiene and Therapy. She was also awarded the BADT Professionalism Award, and the BSDHT Dean’s Award for overall excellence throughout the course.

Since qualifying, Molly has undertaken a Dental Therapy Foundation Year, whereby she has been able to carry out her full scope of practice, including carrying out fillings on adults and children, extraction of children’s teeth, and placing stainless steel crowns on children’s teeth. In her spare time, molly enjoys playing in the local netball league. She also enjoys going to the gym, swimming in the sea, and painting.

Your NHS Provider

As some patients may already be aware our associate dentist Sammy Holt began an MSc in Oral Surgery in 2020 with Plymouth University. In addition to this he has also undertaken training in conscious sedation and taken up a role as a Clinical Supervisor with Plymouth University, teaching and supervising undergraduate dental students in Exeter. Due to increased commitments in these roles Sammy will be reducing his commitments in NHS dentistry.  Associate dentist Cameron Shaw has reduced his working commitments with the practice from September.

The Reception Team will be in touch if they haven’t already if these changes effect your dental provider or upcoming appointment.

Short Notice Cancellations & Failure to Attend

We aim to provide all our patients with the best possible service and to achieve this we need your cooperation.

We understand that you have a busy schedule and recognise the need to provide an efficient service. We will make every effort to book an appointment time and date to suit you. Patients then need to notify us if you can not make the booked appointment.

Illness: Patients who are unable to make their appointment because of illness should, where possible, contact the practice as soon as they are aware that they are unable to attend.

Short Notice Cancellations & FTA’s: Our practice requires 24 hours notice for cancellation of appointments. Failing to notify us before the appointment time or within 24 hours, will result in a failure to attend charge being added to your dental account of up to 50% of the treatment fee for private patients.

For NHS patients, this can put your NHS eligibility at the practice at risk.

Rest assured, we do take exceptional circumstances into consideration.

Considering Composite

Composite bonding is a modern way to restore worn or damaged teeth. It involves bonding tooth coloured filling material to teeth to restore them to their original form and function. It is a very conservative method of treatment as it requires none or minor tooth preparation.

In terms of aesthetic changes to front teeth – composite is largely used in two ways:

1. Edge Bonding – adding composite to the biting edge of a front tooth. Generally to make the teeth appear longer and more uniform. Often to address, chipping/thinning.

2. Composite Veneers – adding composite to the whole front surface of the tooth. This can enhance the overall shape & appearance of the whole tooth.

Prices start from £300 for a composite veneers  and £200 for edge bonding, we have finance options available with 0% for up to 12 months.

Mr Mills was kind, pleasant and reassuring, and explained everything to me, so that I knew what was going on every inch of the way. I can’t recommend him and his implant team highly enough.
Super helpful, friendly, clean, efficient and brilliant at informing us of procedures & treatment. We never feel rushed or have to wait too long. They have made the dentist experience a positive one for our children – who are always excited to go!
I would rate this dentist 1000 stars if I could! Everyone there is so friendly and smiley! I had my teeth done by John Cato and Paula and what can I say. Both of them made me feel so relaxed even though I normally hate the dentist they have made this all change! I couldn’t thank them both enough.
Ms P
It’s nearly two months since my treatment for an implanted bridge concluded and I could not be more pleased. The treatment was excellent, the care by Ian Mills and his team was superb and the teeth look fantastic.
Rhys Gabe is an incredible guy. After 30 odd years of avoiding the dentist through fear I actually now enjoy going thanks to this man. I cannot recommend him highly enough to nervous and anxious patients.
