Over 70 young super-heroes, including Spiderman and Batman, joined in the fun and games at Torrington Dental Practice’s recent Children’s Day on Wednesday 19th February.
There was fancy dress and face painting, bunting and balloons – all manner of activities designed to put the children at ease and encourage them to look after their teeth. After all, what better way to banish their fears of a check-up, than a visit to their own caped-crusading dentist?!
Every child attending received a personal ‘passport’ on which they drew their own picture, and then added stickers which they were awarded for completing each activity ̶ one from reception on arrival, another from their dentist after their check up, and the final one from Kim, our Oral Health Educator, who advised them on how to keep their teeth and gums clean. (Their parents also gained lots of useful hints and tips!) A full passport earned each child a paper goody bag containing an apple, a TDP reusable water bottle and toothpaste.
“It was wonderful to see anxious children who have been unable to complete examinations in the past, willing to sit quietly for a super-hero dentist” says Toni Batty, Practice Manager. “It was also lovely to see so many of our team entering into the spirit of things, from masks and capes, to full-on face paint! Particular thanks go to Gemma our Dental Therapist who organised the face painting and games, Kim, for the excellent oral health advice, and our Hygienist Sabina who helped to organise the day.”
For their next Children’s Day, the team are planning an even bigger Pirates and Princesses event, with more games and educational activities. Children will be invited to get dressed up before coming for their check-ups, so that the team can admire their costumes. Watch this space for further details!
