What to expect

Whatever type of implant(s) you require, you are in safe and empathetic hands at Devon Dental Implant Centre. We are experienced in all aspects of implant treatment, from single implants to advanced procedures such as bone augmentation. We treat every patient on an individual basis and will only offer you implants if we believe they are right for you. If not, we have a wide range of alternative treatment options available.

Implants sound complex but most of our patients are surprised at how straightforward the process is. If you are at all nervous about the treatment, you will be reassured to know that we have a Devon-wide reputation for our success with treating anxious patients and will help you overcome any fears you may have.

Your implant plan

Free Consultation: Every patient enquiring about implant treatment at our centre is offered a free, half-hour consultation. During your consultation we will discuss your suitability for implants, how they can help you, and what other treatment options are available. You are under no obligation to proceed with the implants at this stage.

Assessment: If you decide to go ahead with treatment, you will be invited for a detailed assessment and examination to discuss the best options for your individual needs. Our state-of-the-art 3D-CT scanner will help us to determine the quality and quantity of bone you have in your jaw, and visualise the optimal positioning for your implants.

Hygiene treatment: Periodontal (gum) disease can be a significant risk in implant failure. Depending on the health of your gums we may advise a programme of gum treatment and oral hygiene instruction to stabilise the situation prior to implant treatment. Our hygienists will assist you with this if necessary.

Surgery: During surgery the titanium implant is carefully inserted, and a small temporary button placed on top. We usually carry out this procedure under local anaesthetic, however we are very sensitive to the needs of anxious patients and can offer sedation where necessary.

Healing: Once the implant has been placed it is normally allowed to heal undisturbed for approximately eight weeks during which time the implant fuses with the bone, a process known as “Osseo-integration”. During this period, you may be fitted with a temporary tooth or teeth.

New tooth placement: When your implant has healed an internal post or ‘abutment’ is placed into the implant. This allows your new tooth/teeth to be fitted. For a single tooth implant, a crown will be made to match the size, shape and colour of your natural teeth. For more than one tooth, a custom-made bridge or denture will be made to fit your mouth and blend in with your other teeth.

After-care: After care is vital to ensure successful, long-lasting implants. Our hygienists can advise you on the correct tools and techniques to keep your teeth and gums clean and healthy. It is important that you see your own dentist and hygienist on a regular basis, to ensure the implants are being well looked after. We also advise that you return to see the implantologist after twelve months to allow us to assess your implants, gums and general hygiene levels.

Implant costs

At first glance implant treatment appears to be more expensive than other options such as dentures or bridges. However, when you consider the longevity of the treatment, and the long-term health of your mouth, it is almost always a wise option, which will prove to be very cost-effective over time.

The fee list below gives you an indication of the typical investment involved in a range of treatments. This should be viewed as a guide, as each patient has individual needs. A detailed report with an exact cost of treatment is given to each patient before proceeding.

WHAT OUR PATIENTS
SAY ABOUT US

Mr Mills was kind, pleasant and reassuring, and explained everything to me, so that I knew what was going on every inch of the way. I can’t recommend him and his implant team highly enough.
Ms VG
Super helpful, friendly, clean, efficient and brilliant at informing us of procedures & treatment. We never feel rushed or have to wait too long. They have made the dentist experience a positive one for our children – who are always excited to go!
Ms HK
I would rate this dentist 1000 stars if I could! Everyone there is so friendly and smiley! I had my teeth done by John Cato and Paula and what can I say. Both of them made me feel so relaxed even though I normally hate the dentist they have made this all change! I couldn’t thank them both enough.
Ms P
It’s nearly two months since my treatment for an implanted bridge concluded and I could not be more pleased. The treatment was excellent, the care by Ian Mills and his team was superb and the teeth look fantastic.
Mr SM
Rhys Gabe is an incredible guy. After 30 odd years of avoiding the dentist through fear I actually now enjoy going thanks to this man. I cannot recommend him highly enough to nervous and anxious patients.
