Gold Standard award in implant dentistry

Ian has undertaken extensive postgraduate training in implant dentistry. In 2008, he was awarded the prestigious Diploma in Implant Dentistry and a higher certificate in Advanced Implant Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He is one of only a handful of implantologists to hold this prestigious qualification, which is widely recognised as the Gold Standard award in implant dentistry in the UK.

Fellowship of the Faculty of General Dental Practice

Ian has worked at Peninsula Dental School since it was established in 2007 and is closely involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate education. He gained his Fellowship from the Higher Education Academy in 2016 in recognition of his contribution to education in dentistry. Ian is also actively involved in research and was awarded a PhD in 2018 for research into “Person-Centred Care in General Dental Practice”. His current research interests include dental recruitment and retention in rural areas and mental health and wellness in dentistry. He has published over 30 academic papers in peer-reviewed journals and writes regularly for various dental journals.

Fellowship and Life Membership of the Association of Dental Implantology

Ian teaches and lectures regularly on the subject of implantology, and in 2023 was awarded a Fellowship and Life Membership of the Association of Dental Implantology. Ian’s contribution to UK dentistry has also been recognised by his peers through the award of the College Medal from the College of General Dentistry in 2021 and the Fellowship Medal from the British Dental Association in 2023.
