All the oral health advice you need.
New Year’s resolutions are notoriously hard to keep, but here’s a simple one that could have a huge impact on your teeth, your health, and your smile: Take better care of your oral health with our oral health advice.
With the expansion of TDP complete, our brand-new Oral Health Education Suite is ready and waiting to give you and your family all the help and support you need to look after your teeth and gums. So, what can you expect from a visit?
“Each appointment usually lasts around 20-30 minutes”, explains Kim Childs, our Oral Health Educator, “and unlike a visit to the dentist, there’s absolutely nothing to fear! Most of us get our oral health habits from our parents/carers, who don’t always know best. So, we go back to basics with lots of practical tips on how to clean your teeth, what kind of toothbrush offers the best results, dietary information, and more.”
“You might also be offered a disclosing session, which involves chewing a tablet for 30 seconds” adds Kim. “The tablet contains a harmless vegetable dye which then shows up any plaque on your teeth – the results can be quite a surprise!”
Kim says that it is important to have regular check-ups with your dentist. Aside from dental care, poor oral hygiene can have wider health implications, particularly for those affected by heart disease, diabetes and cancer.
She is also keen to stress that, when it comes to children’s oral hygiene, it is never too soon to start.
“Tooth decay is the number one reason for hospital admissions among 5-9 year olds, and extractions can set up a lifetime’s fear of the dentist” she says. “Oral health appointments are free for all children on the NHS – what better way to start them on a lifetime of good habits?”
To help parents understand the benefits of good oral hygiene and how to achieve it, we are holding our annual Children’s Day on Wednesday, February 19th, during half-term. Kim and her team will be on hand to advise and provide oral health advice. If your child is due a dental check-up, why not schedule it for the same day so that your family can take advantage of the fun and informative activities on offer, including one-to-one advice sessions with Kim? Call 01805 623657 to book an appointment.
